Bron: Perplexity
This village was the home of mathematician and ecologist Alexander Grothendieck. He is considered one of the greatest mathematicians of the 20th century and a radical pacifist who, from 1970 onwards, developed a distinct, almost prophetic ecological worldview. His name is famous for the way he restructured mathematics (schemes, toposes, new cohomology theories) and for his break with the scientific world based on moral and ecological convictions.
After his break with IHÉS, he lived in small villages such as Villecun and later Mormoiron, in a sober, rural environment; there he combined teaching, activism and an increasingly radical distance from institutions.
