Located south of the village of Molinchart, a chaotic rocky conglomerate, likely dating from the Tertiary era, about 70 million years ago. A type of formation similar to the sandstone deposits found in the Fontainebleau forest (white sand).
These sandstones are made up of grains of sand that deform under the effect of erosion, with the cups randomly agglomerating into mounds called "gogottes."
Regarding the name Hottée de Gargantua, it can possibly be connected to the siege of the city of Laon, a league stronghold, at the end of the 16th century by the armies of Henry IV. Rabelais' Gargantua was published in 1532, so it is conceivable that it was already part of the imagination of the people of that time.
