Situato a sud del villaggio di Molinchart, conglomerato roccioso caotico, risalente verosimilmente all'era terziaria, ovvero 70 milioni di anni fa. Tipo di formazione simile ai conglomerati sabbiosi che si trovano nella foresta di Fontainebleau (sabbia bianca). Questi arenarie sono composte da grani di sabbia che sotto l'effetto dell'erosione si deformano, le coppe si agglomerano in modo casuale in rilievi che chiamiamo « gogottes ». Per quanto riguarda il nome Hottée de Gargantua, si può eventualmente avvicinarlo all'assedio della città di Laon, liguista, alla fine del XVI secolo da parte degli eserciti di Enrico IV. Il Gargantua di Rabelais essendo apparso nel 1532, si può pensare che occupasse già l'immaginario degli uomini di quell'epoca.
