Jean-Baptiste André Godin (1817-1888), the founder of the factory of the famous Godin stoves, devised a society for his workers with the same living conditions as "the rich". During the second half of the 19th century he built the Familistère or 'Social Palace'. You can discover the Familistère through the museum on site, the model house, the yard of the living pavilions, the ornamental garden, the caretaker's house, the Familistère theatre and the pool-laundry room.
