Second highest peak of the Vosges massif with 1 364 m of altitude, the Hohneck dominates the ridge line that separates Alsace from Lorraine
Overlooking the lake of Schiessrothried, it is a paradise for hikers with its numerous paths. Bordered by two glacial cirques (Frankenthal in the north and Wormspel in the south) sheltering a rare flora and whose rocky slopes make it a paradise for chamois.
It is a remarkable place which offers an exceptional panorama on the Alsatian valleys, the High Vosges, the Black Forest and by clear weather, it is even sometimes possible to see the Alps.
A neighboring balloon, located 1.5 km to the east and culminating at 1,288 m, is called Petit Hohneck. Discover its gentle slopes which welcome in summer herds of Vosges cows or a few chamois.
