In the 11th century, the church of Pomayrols was donated to the Abbey of Conques which managed it until the 14th century, before handing it over to the Bishop of Rodez
In 1568, the Calvinists massacred the guards of the castle and the priests, looted the seigneurial residence, seized the treasure that the parish of St Geniez had put there for safekeeping and burnt the church and the castle.
The present building, dedicated to St Jean-Baptiste, rebuilt at the end of the 19th century, is built around the Chapel of the Rosary, also known as the Chapel of the Lords, dated 1452 and the only remnant of the old church burnt down in 1568 by the Protestants. A sundial appears above the portal.
The church consists of a rectangular nave, the vault of which was made in 1840, and an apse with a cul-de-four vault lit by three narrow bays. The two side chapels are uneven.
