Located in the commune of Badonviller, the National Necropolis houses the remains of 2,653 French soldiers who died during the Great War (2 ossuaries) and 28 French soldiers who fell between 1939 and 1945. This Necropolis gathers the bodies from the war cemeteries of Badonviller, Ancerviller, Angomont, Baccarat, Montigny, Neufmaisons, Pierre-Percée and Saint-Maurice.
During the First World War, the local population suffered a lot: on August 12, 1914, the city was sacked by the Bavarians, and several civilians were executed. The Germans reoccupied the city from August 23 to September 12, 1914, then briefly on September 24, 1914. Re-invested by French troops, the town was then under fire from March 1915 until the Armistice.
In the National Necropolis of Badonviller, there is a sculpture dedicated to the dead of La Chapelotte; it was first erected directly at the Col de La Chapelotte, before being moved to this place of memory
Accessible every day, all year round.
