Did you know that the town of Magenta, next to Epernay, has a history closely linked to that of the railway? It was home to the SNCF workshops in Epernay, whose vocation was to build and maintain steam locomotives, then overhaul diesel and electric locomotives
The BB 16678 is one of the 16500 locomotives, produced between the 1950s and 1960s, capable of towing passenger trains at a speed of 140 km/h and freight trains at 100 km/h. A revolution at the time!
It is an emblematic machine from the SNCF workshops in Epernay, which wanted to give it back the sparkle of its youth. Currently being restored, the BB 16678 retired in May 2010 after 48 years of operation and 5,773,108 kilometres on the clock! To be discovered very soon at Magenta.
