Housed in the former convent of the Urbanistes, this museum traces the development of Lille from the year 1000 to 1835. It features a collection of 3,000 objects, some of them linked to the Confrérie de Sainte-Barbe, whose members took an oath in 1483 to defend the city and train regularly for this purpose. Although the brotherhood was disbanded, the gunners proved particularly valiant during the Austrian siege of 1792. In recognition of this resistance, Napoleon Bonaparte presented them with two Gribeauval cannons, which are still on display in the museum. Other exhibits include 16th-century maps of the County of Flanders, rifles from 1777 to 1945, and edged weapons.
3,000 objects are on display: rifles from 1777 to 1945, edged weapons and 2 exceptional cannons, the famous Gribeauval, donated by Napoleon Bonaparte to the gunners.
