Dun, dunum castrum, was undoubtedly originally an oppidum that improved the defence of the Roman camps on the Côte Saint Germain and the Côte du Châtelet, and defended the passage of the Meuse. The fortified village on an isolated hillock has preserved many traces of its medieval defensive system.
The only monument to have withstood conflicts over the centuries, the majestic church of Notre-Dame de Bonne Garde (14th century) dominates the Meuse valley.
A walking tour around the ramparts, lasting about an hour, allows you, through illustrated panels, to discover the history of the fortress. Discover also medieval machines, a medieval garden... Every summer, a restoration work is carried out on the ramparts, while the Dun le Chastel association works all year round to develop, flower and enhance the site. Access to the old fortress and the circuit of the ramparts is free.
A little extra: a free game book is available at the Tourist Office for children from 7 years old. Play materials are also available to discover independently the old fortress and the church of Dun-Haut.
Guided tours can be offered for adult groups, schools and leisure centres.
