Château de Chitry-les-Mines

Located in Chitry-les-Mines near an ancient Roman road linking Dijon to Bourges, the Château de Chitry overlooks the Yonne.

Built on an ancient Gallo-Roman estate, it dates from the 17th and 19th centuries.
Since the 14th century, the vagaries of inheritance and sale have seen it pass through many families who have made their mark on the history of the province. Since the end of the 19th century, it has been the property of the Nadaillac family.

The Château is built on a barlong plan and is U-shaped, open to the south-west. It has a flanking main building and 4 towers. The oldest part is on the east side, where a drawbridge used to stand, traces of which can still be seen.

The interior houses furniture from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, paintings from the Italian and French schools, as well as Aubusson and Flanders tapestries. The west wing is occupied by a Gallery decorated with Mythological Paintings representing the Sibyls.

Protected elements Historic Monument: the castle (except for the listed parts): listed by decree on 12 March 1942. The door of the former chapel in the north-east corner of the courtyard; the Sybil gallery in the west wing of the castle: listed by order of 11 December 1987. The terrace and the retaining wall: listed by order of 11 December 1987.
