Wood of Serres

As the main natural space of the Ecully community, the Serres wood is a favored place for walks with diverse wildlife.

The Serres wood covers an area of 160 hectares of forest and streams, which are home to 106 species of birds, 15 species of reptiles and amphibians, and 14 species of mammals.

Since 1994, the City of Écully has been involved in protecting and enhancing a sensitive natural area, located less than 10 km from the heart of the Lyon urban area, through its activities. Joint actions with neighboring municipalities have ensured the protection of flora and fauna, the creation of marked trails, and the organization of activities for schoolchildren.

The community's actions particularly focus on managing the water cycle (restoration of streambanks), protecting nature (conservation actions for amphibians), and environmental education (nature outings).

Designed in the heart of the forested massif, the thematic trail of the Serres wood allows walkers to discover the flora and fauna of the Western Lyonnais valleys.

At the end of 2017, as part of the "Nature Project," a loop was created for people with reduced mobility.

To ensure the site's sustainability, the municipality classified the entire Serres wood as EBC in its Local Urban Planning Plan. The wood is also integrated into the Regional Ecological Coherence Scheme of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is finally registered by the Departmental Commission for Nature, Landscapes, and Sites.
