Col de Grimone

The Col de Grimone is a mountain pass at an altitude of 1318 meters in the Diois massif, in the French department of Drôme. The Diois massif is one of the massifs considered part of the French Pre-Alps.
On the western side, the pass road departs from the Drôme valley, near Châtillon-en-Diois. Near Châtillon, the pass road to Col de Menée, which leads to Chichilianne, also begins. The route then goes through the Gorges des Gâts, a narrow gorge of the Bez river. The gorge ends at the plain of Glandage, a small village halfway up the climb to the pass height. A few kilometers before the col, the hamlet of Grimone, after which the pass is named, is passed. The route from Châtillon to the pass height is 23 kilometers long. The eastern side of the Col de Grimone is relatively shorter: only four kilometers. There, the road starts at a much higher elevation, just slightly lower than the Col de la Croix Haute. The road starts on the D1075, the road over the Col de la Croix Haute, in the territory of the municipality of Lus-la-Croix-Haute, near the hamlets of les Lusettes and la Croix Haute.
