EGLISE SAINT-HILAIRE - SAINT-CHELY-D'APCHER

Saint-Chély would be a regional deformation of Saint-Hilaire. Before the Revolution it was called Sancti-Hilari de Capoleg
This church finds its origins in a small chapel erected in the heart of the 16th century on the same site. The present church preserves two thirds of this building. In 1690, the parish was transferred from the chapel in the cemetery to the one in the city walls
Built of granite, the church has several characteristics: it has no bell tower and is embedded in the city, leaving only the western and eastern façades open to the public. Its entrance portal is remarkable for its arched arches but also for its woodwork with the arms of the Barons of Apcher and the cross of Languedoc.
In the left side aisle is a beautiful pedestal from the 17th century. Also worth seeing is the altar of the Blessed Sacrament to the south and the altar of Our Lady of Pity to the north. The choir is the only part of the church decorated with flowery paintings.
