Description

Château de La Nine, in Boussan, was built at the end of the 17th century to mark the marriage of Emmanuel de Timbrune-Valence to Charlotte de Fontenilles, daughter of the lord of Boussan. The main building, on the ground floor, is a square of 1000m², crossed from end to end by 2 wide galleries, 32m long, crossing at right angles in the middle under a 7m high cupola, with period paving and basket-handle vaulting. To the north, the entrance courtyard, bordered by multi-storey outbuildings, features an imposing ashlar entrance portal, while on the south facade, two tiered terraces - with views of the Pyrenees - are bordered by an older parapet walk. The last Valence to own La Nine commanded the center of the French army at the battle of Valmy, a center whose resistance decided its victory. Since 1886, La Nine has belonged to a family of Pyrenean origin with close ties to the great French composers of the 19th century.
