Belle croix

The building features a cross vault supported by four angular buttresses, whose ribs, intersecting at right angles, extend, with no carvings or capitals, to an octagonal base resting on the ground in each of the small chapel?s corners.

On each of the four sides is a wide ogive, 2.50 m wide and around 3.80 m high. These ogives were closed on 3 sides by a wall at sill height. Two charmingly designed rosettes decorate opposite sides. The two-storey buttresses end in a slender gable with two hooks in relief. Underneath, the de HEU coat of arms and the date 1462 are engraved.

The cross, knocked down during the French Revolution, was restored in the early 20th century.
In 1921, the building was listed as a French historic monument.

During the Second World War, the cross was removed for safekeeping in a house, but was never found.
In 1976, a group of young villagers brought the building back to life. Sunday mass collections were used to buy a new cross. A bronze Christ was donated by a local to be fixed to the cross.

In 1978, the doubling of the main road made it necessary to move the building. It was rebuilt 48 meters from its former location. A cartouche engraved in the stone indicates the direction and distance from the former site.
