ARBORETUM DE SAINT-NABORD

Created in 2000, near the "Au-dessus de Chaumont" sector, for educational and experimental purposes, this forest area is home to a fine collection of conifers (Larch, Oriental Spruce, Weymouth Pine, Colorado Fir, Sitka Spruce, Sequoia, Scots Pine?weymouth Pines, Colorado Firs, Sitka Spruces, Sequoia, Scots Pines, etc.) and broadleaved trees (Catalpas, Tulipiers, Montpellier Maples, Purple Maples, Cherry, Alder, Robinia, Ash, Red Chestnut, Red Oak, Elm, etc.).

Planted by local elementary school pupils twenty years ago, the trees? alternating green and purple foliage was intended to form the numbers of the year as seen from the sky. A fitting tribute to the year 2000.

On arrival at the arboretum, visitors are greeted by a site map showing the different tree species and the signposted route, located near the carport and picnic table.

Some forty panels spread throughout the site inform walkers about the characteristics of each species present on site. 5 other panels are devoted to themes such as global warming and its consequences on flora and fauna, the forest ecosystem and vegetation in acidic environments. Directional arrows mark out the footpath from one end of the circuit to the other, suggesting the direction of the visit.
This experimental island of majestic trees in the heart of our forest is just waiting to reveal its treasures to walkers eager for knowledge and wide-open spaces?
