The presence of the Reformed Church in St-Germain-de-Calberte dates back to 1560, at the time of the arrival of a former bookseller from Geneva. The existence of a temple in the 17th century is attested, and St-Germain is even the center of one of the three colloquies of the Cevennes. This religious importance explains the choice of the abbot Chayla, in charge of organizing the repression of the Protestants in the Cevennes, to establish his seminary there
When the Edict of Nantes was revoked in 1685, the temple of Saint-Germain was immediately destroyed and only rebuilt in 1824
It is a massive building with a rectangular plan and large dimensions. This amplitude can be explained by the religious importance of St-Germain in the 19th century, which is the chief town of one of the five consistory churches of Lozere.
The pulpit is remarkable for its quality of execution.
