PARC DE BÉTANGE

Visit an English-style park of 65 hectares completely enclosed by a fence with a castle built in 1830 at its heart. The whole is registered as a Historic Monument

From the D653 road in Florange, you can access it via a majestic driveway labelled "Remarkable tree complex in France", winner of the "2020 tree driveway competition" of the Sites & Monuments association. It is 650 metres long and lined with 150 hundred-year-old chestnut trees.

The site of Bétange is linked to the history of France and was visited by General Patton during the liberation of Florange in 1944. Bétange is the only property in the iron and steel valley that belonged to forge masters - the de Wendel, de Gargan and de Mitry families - and still belongs to their descendants for 200 years

In the park of Bétange, one can discover several elements in wrought iron, witnesses of the magnificent know-how of the Lorraine steelworkers (kiosk in cast iron branches, statue of the Virgin in cast iron, access gates)

The site of Bétange is also an exceptional green lung between the state forest of Florange and the Moselle with an alternation of forests, meadows and ponds. It is home to a significant biodiversity including 48 protected species of birds and 12 protected species of bats. The park and the alley are labelled by the L.P.O. and the C.P.E.P.E.S.C. The park is made up of trees with high foliage and varied species, including a 450-year-old oak tree labelled "Remarkable tree of France".

The park of Bétange is open to the public several times each year and particularly during the European Heritage Days. For the 2021 edition on September 18th and 19th, a signposted route will allow you to discover the different perspectives and places of interest in the park. Stands of environmental and heritage associations will line the route. The associations will present animations and will explain why they are mobilized for the safeguard of the site of Bétange.
