The church of Saint-Médard de Banassac is mentioned as early as 1123 among the possessions of the chapter of Mende, but the eventful history of the territory, in particular the wars of Religions, has led to many changes. In 1591, multiple degradations were reported and works were ordered in the 17th century
In addition to repairing the vaults, the latter consisted of the construction of a three-bay south side aisle, in order to complete the building which, originally, had only one vessel. The side aisle leads to the Chapel of the Virgin, which has Gothic features.
The polygonal vaulted choir has a niche with a statue of the Virgin
The frieze of arches, located on the right, is of medieval construction. The remains of sculpted winged figures can be seen on the bases. A body was found there in 1619 and transported to La Canourgue.
