Hirtzbach

A typical Sundgau village, which has just added the Prix du Ministère de l?Agriculture et de la pêche and the Office interprofessionnels des fruits, légumes et de l?horticulture to its long list of awards

Hirtzbach is proud of its four flowers, and has won national and European awards for the quality of its flowering. It's a village where life is undeniably good.

Following the course of the stream (the Hirschbach), you'll discover beautiful half-timbered houses and an avenue of century-old lime trees. A stroll through the Charles de Reinach park reveals the Sundgau's last glacier, a wealth of vegetation and the Château de Reinach.

The Sainte-Afre chapel and parish church are packed with artistic and architectural relics, including a painting by Gutzwiller, a fresco by Limido (in the church) and a 15th-century pietà (in the chapel).

Not to be missed on the 1st weekend of August: the Fête de la Nature, a major two-day street festival that brings the whole village to life and attracts some 10,000 people to Hirtzbach every summer: exhibitions, craft stalls, street entertainment, folk music and a fireworks display round off the festivities.
