The Courtaud fountain is one of the beautiful ornamental fountains frequently found in town squares since the 19th century. Volcanic stone fountain surmounted by a bust of Courtaud. Jean Claude Courtaud, born in Felletin on November 19, 1794, died in Paris on February 11, 1879, professor of Greek grammar and author of a French/Greek dictionary.
This stone bust replaces a bronze bust executed by Louis-Edmond Cougny (Nevers, October 3, 1831 - Paris, February 17, 1900), placed as decoration on the fountain in 1881; this bronze bust was removed on February 4, 1942 by the Veyres-Périée company, Quai de Valon, Tulle, to be sent for recasting. The bust visible today is an exact copy of the original, as attested by the Thiebaut foundry mark visible on the stone.
