ÉGLISE SAINT-MARTIN

Description

This Romanesque bell tower is different from the rest of the building. It houses the choir of the former chapel of Saint-Etienne of the Teutonic Order, built during the 11th and 12th centuries, of which it is the only element that has been preserved. The top of the tower is pierced by eight Romanesque windows. On an exterior stone of the bell tower, you will find a very stylised sculpture of a bird perched on a tree dating from the 11th century. Today's church was built by the architect Derobe in 1831. The frescoes that decorate the interior are by Jean Engels and date from 1900.
