Slate is an essential element of Rimogne's heritage, which for centuries was a major slate quarry in France. The village still bears the imprint of slate in its streets and in many of its buildings and houses. As soon as you enter the village, you will see the characteristic alignment of the former dwellings of the slate quarrymen and the retaining walls of the verdous slag heaps, then very quickly, you will see the top of the metallic headframe of the Puits Saint Quentin. It rises to some 25 m in the heart of the village, of which it is almost the emblem. It was used to house the winch of an elevator which, until 1970, overlooked the last mine in operation. You will then visit the House of Slate. Housed in the buildings of the former Rimogne slate quarry power station, this museum has been given a new lease of life: the whole of its tour route has been revised. It offers an original experience around the slate quarrying epic from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. Interactive and lively, the visit will give you the impression of going down to the bottom of the pit. Equipped with a tablet and guided by the voice of a slate quarryman, you will discover the extraction techniques and the living conditions of the workers and their families, before leaning over an impressive 185 m shaft. Note that the Maison de l'ardoise is also a place for cultural events and that it regularly hosts artistic events and exhibitions in its exceptional setting. And if you want to extend your stay in the slate village, you can spend a night in the comfortable gîtes, set up in the old brickworks buildings. Free visit, not guided, provision of a free digital tablet. Free entry for children under 6 years old and the inhabitants of Rimogne whatever their age. Guided tours for schools Visit possible in French and soon in English, Dutch, Luxembourgish
