Dominating the Chaos of Gouët, Quintin boasts a colorful market and dynamic shops in its narrow streets. In spring, those approaching the city walk alongside wisteria, camellias, and hollyhocks that adorn the blond granite of the facades. In summer, who can resist the temptation to cool off on the terrace of a bar by the pond, watching the brightly colored canoes and hearing the laughter of children.
Arriving in Quintin from its eastern edge, visitors are struck by the imposing 18th-century castle and the large wall that connects it to the two towers from the 15th century and the New Gate. This initial vision of the city evokes its past as a walled town, situated between Armor and Argoat.
At the heart of the town, Quintin shows another face, enhanced by the architectural elegance of the houses surrounding the central square. 16th-century half-timbered houses and granite homes from the 17th and 18th centuries, true mansions, highlight the wealth of the linen merchants who made Quintin prosperous. For two centuries, the fine "Bretagne" linens, made from flax and favored by the Spanish, were exported as far as the Americas.
From its history, the city has inherited thirteen classified historical monuments and a rich urban heritage with diverse architectures. Starting from the central square, streets with a strong commercial tradition, alleys, and narrow passages offer the wanderer a very dense succession of remarkable and varied heritage achievements. Religious buildings, fountains, shaded parks, and panoramic viewpoints are enhanced by quality floral decoration.
