Vitrac - Water Gardens - Cingle de Montfort

Start: B&B Perles de Montfort - Touristic and recreational cycling (e-bike and/or racing bike) around the "Cingle de Montfort" - visit to "Jardins d’eau"

A short bike loop from Vitrac, along the Caudon castle, a climb of about 2 km through the forest "Les Combes de Dommes" to then descend back to the Dordogne where we visit the beautiful water gardens in Carsac.

This remarkable garden of Périgord overlooking the wild banks of the Dordogne is dedicated to the splendor of lotuses, Egyptian papyrus, exotic and tropical water lilies. On and between the various water features, pools, streams, and waterfalls, you will discover a true water arboretum. Unique in Europe! Discover the first water labyrinth, a water bridge of more than 500 meters, amidst water fauna and flora.

Also worth a visit is the beautiful, simple church of Carsac-Aillac. The portal features 5 arched galleries resting on small columns. The stained glass windows and the Stations of the Cross were made by the Russian artist Léon Zack, who fled to France during WWII. We now follow the D703, a road along the rock face/cliffs with a stunning view of the Turnac peninsula in a bend of the Dordogne - "Cingle de Montfort" bend - the river's meandering. A little further, we pass by the "Château de Montfort", a castle with a history of many battles and conquests due to its strategic location during the 100 Years' War.
