Hiking around the Chartreuse of Mont-Dieu

Leaving the village of La Neuville-à-Maire (with the possibility of parking vans in the town hall square), hikers will take part of the GR14 that crosses the state-owned woods of Mont-Dieu via white paths and a small paved road. This takes you to the Chartreuse du Mont Dieu, dating back to the 17th century. The main building from 1617 is flanked by the Saint-Etienne pavilion, which houses a chapel, and the Saint-Bruno pavilion, formerly the hotel for ladies, as well as the stables and the monks' promenade, the gardener's house, moats, all made of pink and black brick, with stone door frames, window frames, and corners of the walls. The hike goes behind the Chartreuse, winds through the adjoining woods to lead to the Château de la Barbière, followed by a passage in front of the farm of la Correrie. The return is made by a paved road, then a white path through the countryside and finally a forest path that connects to the GR14. Some variations (shown on the map) allow hikers to take different paths on the way there and back. The route of this circuit is given for informational purposes.
