A walk around Mont D'Haurs in Givet with the special purpose of visiting the old access gate from 1707.

The old fortress of Mont D’Haurs was built in the shape of a crown somewhere between 1698 and 1707. Building stones were mainly obtained through the excavation of a ditch around the fortress walls.

We start the walk from a beautiful new parking lot right next to the Meuse. Along a winding path, we walk up to an old watchtower that was once a prison. We stop for a moment to take in the immediate surroundings.

We continue further up towards a beautiful viewpoint over Givet. Clearly visible is the Meuse that flows through Givet.

What follows is a winding walk along the old fortress walls. After 1.9km, we briefly bear right and walk down a narrow path towards the old monumental access gate from 1707. After the descent, you look left around the corner and have a wow moment. There will surely be a few photos taken here.

After visiting the old access gate, we climb back up to the wider path and continue through a varied environment. A little later, we descend further to the parking lot by the Meuse.
