Here at the corner of St.Michael 's Hill you could see the visual effect known as the "Café Wall Illusion". Horizontal lines appear not to run parallel but they do in reality is. It was first described in 1973 by Richard Gregory. Gregory states that his story is taken from Steve Simpson, a colleague of his laboratory. The effect was observed on the walls of this café in Bristol. Unfortunately, the next owners of the property removed this historical scientific element.
