Pitlochry Hydropower Plant

The Pitlochry Hydroelectric Power Station is a hydroelectric power station on the River Tummel in the Scottish town of Pitlochry in the Perth and Kinross Council Area. In 2000, the structure was listed in the highest category A of the Scottish Listed Buildings.
The utilization of the Tummel is among the early projects in Scotland for generating energy through hydroelectric power following the end of World War II. From 1943, architects and engineers Reginald Fairlie, James Shearer, and Harold Ogle Tarbolton led the development, which included several hydroelectric power stations along the Tummel, with the Pitlochry power station being the lowest level. Among others, the Tummel power station and the Rannoch power station are part of the same project. Construction began in 1947. Tarbolton passed away in the same year. In December 1950, the power station commenced operations.
