It is hard to imagine, but in 1499, the bay of Methoni was colouring red of blood. On the towers of the castle, the severed heads of all male residents of the city above the age of ten were shown. The Turk Vayazit just conquered Methoni from the Venetians, after he conquered Koroni and Pylos first. It was only after the 6th attempt in 1685 that the Venetians could get Methoni back from the Turks. That only lasted till 1715.
