The oldest geological period on Earth is called the Precambrian . Rocks from that oldest period can be found here in Donegal , but also in Connemara (Galway). You can imagine that rocks from that age have already been through quite a lot. And that's the case here too. They were heated, crushed, compressed... Geologists call such a rock a gneiss (a type of metamorphic rock) formed under high pressure and temperature. And you can find that here too.
