The Theater of Marcellus has existed for over 2,000 years. Originally it was 32 meters high, today it is still 20. Approximately 20,000 spectators could take their seats. The design and appearance also inspired the architects of the later Colosseum. In the Middle Ages, the ruins were first converted into a fortification. From the 16th century onwards, more luxurious buildings were erected. It wasn't until the 1920s that the small shops from the arcades were removed to make way for the restoration of the exterior. 10 years ago, the entire complex was sold through a specialized real estate agency for 32 million euros...
Notice on the outside of the building an inset with 3 fasces, the Roman symbol of judicial power, later adopted by Mussolini's fascist party (see also W5-10).
Address: Via Teatro di Marcello, Roma
