Piazza San Agostino - San Gimignano - Tuscany

Walking through the alleys of San Gimignano you will find places less frequented by tourists, but still full of charm.

This is the case with Piazza Sant'Agostino, lonely and more isolated than the usual tourist trail. Sant'Agostino can be reached with a short walk through the streets near the Porta San Matteo.

The space is large, paved with bricks arranged in a herringbone pattern, with a well in the center and in the corner, the imposing main part of the church of Sant'Agostino.

The exterior of the building is austere, in keeping with Romanesque customs, but on the sides there are long Gothic windows. It was completed in 1298.

Adjacent to the church there is the monastery of the monks and in a beautiful fifteenth century cloister.
