Via Roma is a monumental staircase built at the end of the 19th century that connects the lower part of the city with the higher part.
From the so-called "Chianu Salìa", the intersection between Via Mulè and Via Roma , after a winding path of 300 meters you will arrive in Via Mazzini, a stone's throw from Piazza Umberto I.
The staircase consists of steps in a triple row, the middle one of which is wider and staggered in relation to the others. The floor is made of sea stones delineated by small slabs that form a geometric design reminiscent of a kind of large herringbone.
Some historic buildings face the staircase, such as the medieval tower and the Jesuit school , used as a tribunal.
On December 8, the procession dedicated to the Immaculate Conception , a celebration deeply felt by the city, slowly descends the steps.
