Ettelbrück with a view of the Sauer and its beautiful surroundings

We took this beautiful, varied walk on January 13, 2022

This hike is a combination of different walks we previously did with a small segment of mountain biking. The starting point is at the cemetery in Ettelbrück. We did it counterclockwise, first climbing from 219 m to 363 m over about 2 km along orchards and fields. A difficult ascent, after which it remains quite flat, and then we descend into the valley of the Sauer.

The hike passes by the Deiwelselter. Wikipedia states the following:

The Deiwelselter ( German: Devil's altar) is a megalith made of prehistoric stone in Diekirch, Luxembourg, with a height of about seven meters. The construction took place in 1892 using stones from a disturbed dolmen in 1815. According to a study, the stones date back to around 2000 BC.

Identity

The megalithic monument is considered important for the identity of Diekirch. For example, the brochure of the municipality of Diekirch (first edition 1994) is also called Deiwelselter, and the Deiwelselter is represented in several places elsewhere.

The hiker offers beautiful views of the Sauer, Diekirch, Ingeldorf, Ettelbrück, and their surroundings.
