Loosdrechtse Lakes

The six interconnected Loosdrecht lakes form an important recreational area where you can enjoy boating, sailing, mooring, or relaxing on a beach. Until the 18th century, this area was still a swampy peat meadow. The lakes were created when this land was excavated for peat, which was the most important energy source in the Netherlands until the 19th century. From the late 1920s onwards, this area became one of the most popular water sports areas in the Netherlands, where recreation and stunning nature go hand in hand. The lakes are surrounded by many marinas, restaurants, boat rental companies, and not to forget, magnificent villas where many celebrities reside.
