Jacobus de Meerderekerk

The Jacobus de Meerderekerk in the Overijssel town of Lonneker was built in the years 1911/1912 to replace an earlier church building in this place.
The first Roman Catholic church in Lonneker was inaugurated in 1820 and dedicated to James the Greater. The patrocinium is the same as that of the mother church in Enschede. Because of the dilapidated state and because there was a need for a larger church building, this church was replaced by the current church building in the years 1911/1912. The church was designed in a neo-Gothic style after a design by the architect W. te Riele. The three-aisled cruciform church can accommodate 800 churchgoers. The tower is located directly above the intersection of the transept with the nave and chancel. The glazier H.L.D. Kocken made the stained glass windows. The organ was made in 1950 by the Enschede organ builder H.J. Vierdag. The main altar was made by the Utrecht goldsmith Jan Hendrik Brom.
