De Sprengenberg Estate

Architect Karel Muller has realized one of the most remarkable and striking country houses on the border of Salland and Twente on the 35m high Sprengenberg: Villa Sprengenberg. Popularly called the turret of Palthe after the resident who had the villa built. The villa cannot be visited but the estate around it is freely accessible. It is part of the Haarle forestry, which in turn is part of the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. The Sprengenberg takes its name from the underground water sources that are present here. There used to be a vast heathland here, now there is mainly forest. A herd of Scottish highlanders grazes to maintain the remaining heathland.
