If you want to take a look at Dwarsgracht, follow the footpath along the canal. Just like in Giethoorn, there is also a lot of water, ditches and finders that are fully used by the boating farmers, who can only reach their land via the water. In the middle of the village is one of the thickest and oldest ash trees in our country. The tree was planted around the year 1800 and now has a trunk size of 415 centimeters. Its height is 25 meters. Kooiker Gerrit Jansz. Otter built a house behind the tree in 1882. The roots of the ash tree have raised a large hump around the house over the years. The whole is popularly known as 'the Essenbult'.
