The Bag of South Beveland

The Zak of Zuid-Beveland is characterized by small polders and countless inland dikes. The typical features of the old land have been preserved here. You can still find winding creek ridges systems, open grasslands, and core villages.

The area was created through numerous small land recoveries, which began in the twelfth century by the monks of Saint Bavo from Ghent. The name Beveland originates from them.

The Zak of Zuid-Beveland is a beautiful area with important nature and landscape values such as sedges, boundary linden trees, creeks, 'vliedbergen' (mounds), and small villages. The government therefore designated the Zak of Zuid-Beveland as a Valuable Cultural Landscape in 1994.
