Kiel-Windeweer is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen with 867 inhabitants. It belongs to the municipality of Midden-Groningen. Since 1755 Windeweer was an independent kerspel, from 1811 also an independent municipality, which in 1821 merged into the then municipality Hoogezand.De name is a combination of the names of De Kiel and Windeweer to the south of it, which have grown together. Kiel-Windeweer originated in the mid-seventeenth century as a settlement along the Kieldiep, which was built as a side canal of the Winschoterdiep as part of peat extraction and continues to the Grevelingen canal. After excavating the peat, the subsoil was issued by the city of Groningen as agricultural land.
