In the fourteenth century, there was already a castle on this spot. It is not the castle that stands there now, as it burned down almost completely in 1575. The old castle had a residential tower, which you accessed through an extension. After the fire, the castle was restored and further expanded. The building then received four floors, a gabled roof, and a vaulted cellar. The new castle was built with marl, a type of stone that is commonly found in this area. This is clearly visible because the castle is so light in color. On the west side stands a forecourt, whose oval shape suggests that it was built in the Middle Ages. The wall anchors on the façade depicting the year 1701 refer to the year of a significant restoration. The gatehouse, which has a hipped roof, was renovated in 1718. The tithe barn on the grounds, dating from 1721, is used as a hotel as of 2013.
