The Berkelpoort is a navigable gate and part of the former city walls of Zutphen. It is located on the eastern edge of the city center and spans over the small Berkel River. The gate was built in the 14th century to allow passage over the river while ensuring the city's defense through the continuity of the fortifications. It connects the two parts of the city: the Nieuwstad and the original historic town.
