Between Noordwijk and Noordwijkerhout, pleasure houses emerged along the Westeinde in the 17th century. Wealthy patricians transformed the farms into country houses with varying degrees of grandeur, bearing names such as Dyckenburch, Hofwyck, and Vijverbeeck. Nowadays, almost nothing remains of that grandeur. Most of the country houses have been demolished, and the grounds have been turned into fertile bulb fields. Only 'Dyckenburch' has been preserved: initially as a hotel and campsite, but recently it has been restored as a country house with a new future.
The grounds of ‘Dyckenburch’ currently span 9 hectares and are situated between the Noordwijk Northgodreef and the Noordwijkerhout Westeinde, the Hoogweg and the Gooweg.
The latest restoration of the Dyckenburch property has been approached on a grand scale: started in November 2001, Architect Marco Bruynes from Nieuwkoop and Construction Company Van Kampen from Voorhout have had their hands full with it for years. There was a lot of overdue maintenance on the property, and much needed to be done structurally as well. By the summer of 2006, the work was completed and Dyckenburch restored to its former glory.
