Oene is a village in the northeastern part of the Dutch province of Gelderland. The village is part of the municipality of Epe and belongs to the eastern Veluwe. Oene has approximately 1,625 inhabitants. Oene is located at the height of Epe and is separated from it by the A50 and the Apeldoorn Canal. The road to Epe is called Eperweg in Oene, and on the other side of the canal, it is called Oenerweg. Oene is an old place, which is why it has an old name. It is derived from the prehistoric Germanic 'hûn', meaning 'marshy'. It was indeed located in the floodplains of the IJssel and has a high groundwater level due to seepage from the Veluwe ridge.
