Batavia Stad Fashion Outlet is the first fashion outlet in the Netherlands, located by the Markermeer in Lelystad. The outlet is named after the ship Batavia from 1628, of which a replica is moored nearby at the Bataviawerf. The shopping center is a mimicry of a fortified town, complete with a heavy city wall, three city gates, pedestrian cobbled streets, and a series of individual wooden shop buildings with a quasi-authentic architectural appearance, partly inspired by Marken and partly by the West Indies colonies, where the 'Batavia' as a return ship of the United East India Company never actually was.
