The Dommel Watermill is a watermill that is located on the Dommel near the village of Dommelen. It is a double undershot mill that fulfils both the function of a flour mill and an oil mill. The mill was also used as a bark mill.
This watermill was first mentioned in the 2nd half of the 14th century. Presumably, the documents that report its creation were lost in fire. There is a document from 1422 in which Hendrik van Ranst, who was Lord of Boxtel and Liempde, leased the mill. In 1545 it was owned by Jan van Cortenbach, lord of Helmond and Keerbergen, and later it came into the hands of the Van der Clusen family, who were lords of Waalre, Valkenswaard and Aalst. In 1747 the mill became the property of the nunnery in Arendonk, which was the mother monastery of the former Agnetendal Abbey in Dommelen. Subsequently, the farmers were forbidden by the rulers of the Republic to have their grain ground at this mill.
