The Emmaus Monastery is a Capuchin monastery currently managed by Avant Spirit. The monastery is located in the outskirts of the village of Velp (municipality of Grave, N.Br). In the monastery people still live according to the Capuchin rhythm and tradition. This means that a Liturgy of the Hours takes place three times a day, which you can join if you wish. Adjacent to the gebd, meals are served in our authentic refectory. We expect our guests to respect the monastic rhythm. That's why our reception is only open between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.). The monastery itself closes at 10:30 p.m. You must be in before then!! Take a look at our website.
Avant Spirit manages the monastery, which houses an active residential group. The residential group is also your host during your stay. We are a centre for silence, awareness and development. Our main activity is to provide accommodation for pilgrims (hikers and cyclists with a purpose). Avant Spirit also provides training and courses in the field of peace and quiet and leadership. But there are also special programs aimed at pilgrims, such as "Learning to Pilgrimage", orientation weekends for pilgrimage, etc. See our website for the special pilgrim rates and programs.
The monastery is located in the outskirts of Velp, close to the Maasddijk and the hamlet of Keent. An ideal place for hiking and biking in the area: many marked trails. There is also a weekly walk from the monastery. Moreover, the monastery is located on various walking routes, such as the Nijmegen regional path and the Walk of Wisdom.
You can stay with us in a single or double room or in the dormitory (at a reduced rate). The overnight rooms are located in the guest house Dormitorium of the Clarahuis. In total we have 12 simple rooms. All rooms have a washbasin in the room; The showers and toilets are shared in the hallway. Breakfast is included in the price. Do you want to take lunch with you for the road, or eat a hot meal with you? Of course, that's also possible.
Reservations: it is advisable to make a reservation at least one day in advance. Not only can we make your room neatly in order, you can also be sure that there is room.
Upon your arrival at noon, you can join us for the warm evening meal at 6:30 pm. Please let us know. The costs for this are € 18.00 for a 3 course meal. Lunch for the road: if you want, you can take a packed lunch for € 5.00 for education (sandwiches, currant bun, a packet of drinks and a piece of fruit).
You may also participate in the monastery's tidal meditations. That's right before meals. And you have the opportunity to enjoy the silence in our garden. Or walk the meditative listening walk with accompanying texts and music (ask for it in the monastery).
