The Steenstraat in Arnhem is a shopping street between the city center and Arnhem Velperpoort railway station. The name dates back to the 13th century when this piece of road to Velp was the only paved one. The street features the neo-Gothic St. Martin's Church, an early work by architect Alfred Tepe. The Rembrandt Theater, which was destroyed during World War II and was located where Kruidvat and Foto-Video Smits are now, was relocated to a new building at Velperplein after 1954. In 2011, the street profile of Steenstraat was last significantly altered and the trolleybus disappeared from the street scene.
